STRAFFORD, Mo. — A truck driver hit the jackpot with a $50,000 Powerball win after stopping in Strafford on April 7.
According to the Missouri Lottery, the driver purchased the winning ticket at the Travel Center of America. He won the prize through the Double Play drawing, where players use their selected numbers from the main Powerball drawing in an additional drawing for a chance at up to $10 million.
“I like to buy tickets in different states as I drive through,” the winner explained. “I’ve won a couple of times before, just enough for dinner, but nothing like this!”
Excited by his win, the trucker called his son and daughter-in-law to share the good news. At first, his son didn’t believe him.
“I sent a picture of the Lottery bag I got when I claimed my prize. My son said, ‘You’re really playing it up this time!’” the trucker recalled.
The Missouri Lottery reported that Greene County players have won over $49.4 million in prizes. In addition, more than $19.1 million in lottery proceeds have gone to local education programs.
