An Irish EuroMillions player could make history by winning the largest jackpot ever, an estimated €200 million.
Since the EuroMillions lottery began in 2004, 17 Irish players have won jackpots, with the largest prize of €175 million claimed in February 2019. The winner purchased the ticket at Reilly’s Daybreak on Main Street, The Naul, Co. Dublin.
The deadline for this week’s draw is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21. The draw comes after three players recently claimed top EuroMillions Plus prizes of €500,000.
Among the winners was a player from Clare who won €500,000 in the March 4 draw. The ticket was bought at Crowe’s Gala in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare. The win was especially timely, as the player’s car had just broken down. He joked that he would use his prize money to buy a more reliable car.
The winner kept the ticket safe in a Bible before heading to Lotto HQ to claim the prize. He explained that he had almost forgotten to buy a ticket for the draw and had asked his partner to pick one up, despite her complaints. “Needless to say, she didn’t complain when I told her we were onto a winner!” he said.
A Dublin family syndicate also won €500,000 from the February 28 draw. They purchased their ticket at Spar on New Cabra Road, Dublin 7. The syndicate’s head said, “I play the Lotto and EuroMillions games almost every week. I always check the results the day after the draw—it’s become a habit.”
One member of the syndicate had an amusing reaction when told about the win. “How do you expect me to concentrate and do my shopping after telling me that we’ve won €500,000? I can’t think straight!” he said.
Finally, a duo from Dublin claimed their €500,000 win after the March 14 draw, having purchased their ticket at Tesco Express in Kimmage.
With the €200 million jackpot up for grabs, this week’s EuroMillions draw is sure to generate even more excitement.
